We are all used to trendy shopping malls from now on. Gum is different, it is peculiar, historical, inside when you go everywhere you can see these massive columns, high ceilings.
There is nothing supernatural in the assortment, clothes, textiles, tableware, cosmetics - basically everything is made in Belarus.
A good range of leather bags, men's and women's, a wide range of hosiery for children and adults. Previously, they were more often pleased with days of discounts, -30 or -35%, now there is no such thing left, discounts are mainly at a discount.
I would like to single out a point with the sale of nuts and dried fruits on the 1st floor, although there is almost always a queue, but it's worth it, and prices are lower than at other points in Minsk.

The staff is mostly very professional and friendly. There is no elevator. A large selection of goods produced by Belarus. Wide size range. There are free toilets. There is free drinking water near the information desk. It is very difficult to open a savings card. Not only do you need to buy it for 4 rubles, but then you need to go down from the top floor to the first floor to activate it. And then go up to the top floor and only after that it will be able to be applied at the checkout. If you could see the height of their ceilings and the length of the staircases, you would understand what a horror it is. The most terrible department is the shoe store on the ground floor. Complete lack of service, absolute disregard for customers. We visited a huge number of shops in the Republic of Belarus, we did not meet worse sellers.

We visited Minsk in November 2023.
I was so disappointed how unpresentable this place is in the center of Minsk. Frankly, it's a market with very cheap trash.
One of the advantages is that the toilet is free and clean.
But it was like I plunged into the 90s with a taste of the Soviet Union, a very sad aftertaste remained. The style can be preserved, but give it its own charm, not cheapness, as it looks.
I will not come to this place for sure anymore, I do not advise anyone to visit the city as a tourist.

I like. It is possible to leave outerwear in the cells (both on the ground floor, and on 2 and 3 in front of the entrance to the children's department and the women's).
There is a cafe on the 2nd floor. It's comfortable to sit. I left the child with a cup of tea, and I went to the children's department, looked at what I planned, and only then called my daughter and we already tried on specific things. But there is no traditional black and green tea in the cafe. You will be offered ginger, fruit or sea buckthorn tea. My daughter did not appreciate sea buckthorn tea, but she had no choice.
There is a dining room on the 4th floor. But it works on weekdays until 17.00. Later on Saturday.

I spent 20-25 minutes on the entire purchase selection. I didn't pay attention to the employee's name, a woman. How important is good service in trade, a competent approach to the buyer with his choice of purchase. It was nice to make a rather big purchase in a short time.)))
And when I got to gum about 2 weeks ago. I was amazed that the staff was not all attentive to the service at the checkout. Constantly in all departments, and also in the children's department, soft magnets were not demagnetized. On all the security gates of the store there was a trigger for me to pass through them. As a result, there was a constant check of me and my purchases by checks. The staff was so slow in service, it felt like I was sleeping. The staff was under the age of 20-22, young people. Slow, inattentive, they can't tell you anything about the product. Or they are not interested in all this, so what was the point of going to work in trade then. In trade, you need speed, attentiveness, talkativeness, knowledge of everything about the assortment of this department, in which at least you work. And other positive qualities.

As a result, the women's clothing section did not know about the collection, after a while I found them myself. The sellers and the head of the section had no desire to sell and offer at all. As well as buying from me in principle. No one even participated, although she asked for help in choosing, and more than once. I won't go for clothes, it's easier to order on the WB, the service is still the same... I haven't been in other sections, maybe the situation is better there.

GUM, in general, is a good store, there are a lot of goods and it is quite quite good, and even in clothes you can find something to buy.... And the building is simply cosmic, especially the entrance doors!!!
BUT, I have always been surprised by the advertising of discounts: today there is a 35% discount on all non-food products over 5 rubles. OK, that's good, everyone goes for a 35% discount, but at the checkout it turns out that more than half of the assortment already has its own discount of 20-25% maximum.... And only on the website you can find a list of SUPPLIERS!!! Personally, as a buyer, it is not very convenient for me to read each label and check with the list on whom I have what discount... And everything is hanging in a pile, only some recognizable manufacturers can be easily identified ...
So it turns out that you go for one percent discount, but you get absolutely another ...
BUT there are also PROS: there are positions in each department, they are separately and noticeably highlighted, for which the discount can reach up to 50%, although, taking into account the space allowances, it is not much cheaper than in a store near the house... But, nevertheless, this is psychology: a little cheaper, it's already very pleasant)))
