A wonderful quest for travelers. I went to Uzbekistan for the first time in a car with Russian license plates with friends in May 2024. I drove from Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan at night, and as I realized later, we were wonderfully lucky, everything went in 4.5 hours. In general, everything is adequate, document verification, passengers separately, tinting tax, on the Uzbek side all things from the car through the frame. After customs, insurance is issued in any trailer. We came back at lunch. At the entrance, we realized that we were approaching hell. Queues of cars are 3 km long, buses are full every 10 minutes, a hive of people. We stood in the first queue for 6 hours before the first checkpoint, then went through customs for another 5.5 hours. One plus, the bags are checked superficially, there is no need to spread anything. The only thing to prepare for is that a cheerful dog will crawl around and sniff your whole car, shamelessly all over the cabin. I concluded that I will not go to Uzbekistan by car anymore.

On the border of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan on weekdays, walking across the border is not so tedious, but on weekends in hot weather, crossing becomes a torment. On the part of Uzbekistan, the process is automated: passport scanners and cameras are installed on the turnstiles, which makes crossing the border quick and convenient.
On the territory of Kazakhstan, the situation is much worse: there are disorderly queues, crowding and periodic swearing for a place in the queue. The atmosphere in the room in hot weather resembles a torture chamber due to the lack of ventilation, and the only thing that can cool down a little is a passport used instead of a fan. Movers pass through passport control with large bags on trolleys, pushing aside crowds of people, which further exacerbates the tension.
The lack of basic amenities and attention from the border guards forced the woman to breastfeed her baby right on the ground at the entrance to the border checkpoint while her husband stood in line. Border Shepherds move freely without muzzles in queues, scaring young children, although by law they must be muzzled.
Unfortunately, it is forbidden to capture this border quest on a camera: border guards demand to delete the pictures without explaining the reasons.
And finally, when you go through this difficult stage, you are immediately greeted at the entrance by a new crowd of intrusive taxi drivers, grabbing you and your bags and insistently offering their transportation services.
In general, the effectiveness of checkpoints is determined not only by the actions of border guards, but also by the organization of the process itself and its model. The situation described above reflects the current problems on the part of the layman and is intended so that the responsible agency can take measures to improve the conditions for crossing the border. Our Uzbek neighbors have managed to automate the process, and this experience can be successfully applied on our side.
For motorists, crossing the border is a different story.

Each wait is an hour and a half or two. What awaits us next is still a mystery, as well as what we actually expect every time.
It seems easier to walk - the flow of people is constant, they don't stay long.
