When visiting, it is worth considering that the temperature inside the caves is much lower than outside - a down jacket is certainly not needed, but a warm windbreaker or hoodie will not hurt. Although at the entrance they rent something like a plaid, warm enough.
It is better to pay more attention to shoes - in addition to being cool in caves, it is also quite damp, and in some places water just flows. As a result, it is slippery in places, so it is better not to go there in flip-flops. Ideally, sports sandals or sneakers.

The cave is mandatory to visit, it leaves a lot of positive emotions. Some rooms are just -wow!
It is better to take a jacket or a thin jacket with you, inside 14 °.
In summer, the queues at the ticket office are long, we waited an hour.
It's better to come here for the opening.
And the most ideal option is to climb the Anakopia fortress at 5-6 am, and then immediately visit the cave, we descended from Anakopia around 10 am, there were almost no people.

The organization of the process leaves much to be desired - a waiting room without air conditioning, a paid toilet in the mud, be careful - the time in Abkhazia is the same, but the clock in Mobile phones jumps, so the date of the visit on the ticket may not be clear. What the employees forget to tell you, at first you just hear a shout and go away - this is not your time. In caves, it is always up to + 10 degrees, be sure to take warmer things, otherwise after the heat outside, the tour goes for 1 hour, there is a chance of getting sick. I do not recommend it to small children, it is damp, cold and incomprehensible to them.
But. If you don't get hung up on poor service, everything is just fine - ancient Colchis is incredibly beautiful and charismatic!!!😘

The only recommendation is to buy a ticket in advance, it is very long in summer, you can stand in the heat for 30 minutes and buy a ticket for the tour, which will be in 2 hours.

We arrived in August 2024 to visit the Novo-Athos cave, the tour itself is all well and interesting, but there is nowhere to park the car. Local thugs are collecting money, indicating where to stand, there are no officially designated parking spots, visitors cannot get up on the side of the road, only locals can. We left the cave at about 16.30 these so-called parking guards were no longer there, the people did not come in the evening, there was no one to take money from, and the parking workers were gone. To get into the cave, you need to stand in a huge queue, here again there is a local fellow who has access to the ticket office and sells tickets 1.5 times more expensive to those who want to buy a ticket without waiting in line. The feeling is somehow visited in the 90s, lawlessness is flourishing.

But first you need to buy a ticket, we arrived in the morning, stood in line for about 30 minutes. The car was put in the parking lot for 200 rubles. A subway-like train is taking you to the cave. Ten trailers with 10 seats. Our train was 15 minutes late and then we were hurried the whole tour. But it didn't spoil the impression. I recommend you to visit!

The place is gorgeous! NO maintenance and NO service! We were there for the first time in 2011, then in 2017, so it was much better then. To purchase tickets, you need to stand in an hour-long queue. Apparently, ticket sales terminals are not installed specifically because of travel agencies that buy tickets without waiting in line, and some of the so-called travel agents (their own) they are immediately resold at the end of the queue for 1,500 rubles, with a ticket price of 700 rubles. The waiting hall is stuffy, there are sooooo many people and the hanging three fans absolutely cannot cope with cooling the open room. Turnstiles are installed at the entrance, which could be used to enter using electronic tickets purchased online, but they are disabled. In short, I will say this, if someone from the leadership of Abkhazia sees this review, please put things in order in this place to match the level of a tourist place. For example, we will definitely not take any of our friends there anymore, because the horror that must be overcome to get into the cave does not even compensate for the sheer scale and beauty of this cave. By the way, about toilets... Don't leave them here, it's better to go to the dining room opposite.

You can open two more cash desks, otherwise the queue stretches into a "long snake". People are standing under the sun. Or make some kind of canopy. The impression of the tour is the best. I have probably never seen such magnificent majestic caves anywhere: underground lakes, stalactites, stalagmites, a perfectly equipped hiking route and excellent guides. Perhaps the most vivid impression of a trip to Abkhazia, most of the sights are located in new Athos: the monastery, the cell of the Apostle Kananit, the Fortress and caves. All of them are recommended to visit, this is a very intensive tour in one day, so that it is not tedious, it is better to lay two days: the first cell and monastery, the second caves and fortress. Keep in mind that visiting the caves is only in a group and strictly on schedule (in my opinion every hour), in autumn and the low season tickets for the next session ended, I had to buy the next one, and pass the waiting time in a cafe. I have never spared either time or money - the impressions are indescribable!
