Another very beautiful temple in Georgia. It is located in Mtskheta, near all the infrastructure, shops, cafes, parking for 3 lari, the temple itself is large, beautiful, many ancient icons, including very amazing ones. The priests walk around the temple, they can come up, ask if you are Orthodox or not, if so, they will give you a piece of paper and a pen to write notes for their loved ones, they will take the notes away, they will ask you to donate. It is a very interesting place, there is a large area around.
Mtskheta is becoming more and more crowded. The City Day in the historical capital of Georgia falls on one of the great Holidays - the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and on the same day the Throne in Svetitskhovelli.
Iveria is the First Lot of the Most Holy Lady, She is the Mistress here, and everyone feels it. Grace is in the air!
There are always a lot of people getting married in Svetitskhovelli, and despite the fuss, you feel joy from being involved in significant events in the lives of strangers, from the opportunity to be in the Holy Land and venerate the Shrines of Svetitskhovelli.
I miss you very much, even though I was last in March!
A real paradise on earth - the temple is in excellent condition, the landscape design is admirable - the plants are perfectly formed and grouped, I did not want to leave. I recommend it to everyone to visit. Pay attention to Tsitsino, a charismatic tour guide, effectively, with a soul giving the material. The real symbol of the temple.
I've been coming here for 2 years. It is the ancient capital of Georgia. A quiet, beautiful town reflecting the ethnocultural style of Georgia. The monastery was built in the 4th century, completed in the 11th century, where there is a life-giving cross, an icon of the Iberian Mother of God, a robe of Jesus Christ. I like to be here early in the morning, when there are practically no tourists, a feeling of eternity and peace comes. A small market that is famous for its variety. I always buy churchkhela here. And there is a woman here who makes unique jewelry (silver/gold) with enamels. I've been looking for something designer with Georgian motifs for a long time and found it here.
A beautiful island of antiquity , streets like in Italy or Greece , a peculiar atmosphere . there are excellent restaurants and cafes all around, in general, everything for recreation and tourism . The SMA church is certainly worth a separate story...
The cathedral, built in the 11th century, is one of the main Orthodox shrines of Georgia, translated from Georgian its name means the Life-giving Pillar. The miraculous pillar has been preserved to this day, now surrounded by a stone tent. The cathedral preserves part of the "True Cross" According to legend, it was on it that Jesus Christ was crucified, it is believed that the cape of the prophet Elijah is also kept within these walls. Also in the right side chapel there is a particle of the relics of St. Andrew the First-Called, to the right of the entrance is the baptistery, in which, according to legend, King Mirian himself was baptized, if you go a little further from the baptistery, you can find yourself near the chapel-this is a symbolic copy of the Kuvuklia of the Holy Sepulchre. It is also one of the four Destinies of the Mother of God on Earth.
An amazing place, a very interesting and beautiful temple, with its rich history. And the city of Mtskheta itself is cozy and beautiful, walking along the streets is a very pleasant thing!)
Svetitskhoveli is the Temple of the Life-Giving Pillar. The relics of Saint Sidonia and the chiton of the Savior rest here. Also in this temple there is a particle of the relics of the Apostle Andrew the First-Called. The remains of King Vakhtang Gorgasali are buried in this temple. In September 2023, he was honored to celebrate the Divine Liturgy in this church.
The cathedral, which you should definitely visit and touch the Orthodox shrines. A place of power !!! I especially recommend coming to the city early in the morning. Mtskheta will conquer you with its comfort, beauty and regularity of life. Like in a Swiss village, but in the Caucasus. A worthy place.
Initially, a wooden church was erected in this place, which became the first Christian temple in the country, the king of Iberia Miriana 3 ordered it to be built, the choice of this place is not accidental, it is connected with the great shrine-the chiton of Christ, according to legend, after the crucifixion of Christ, the element of his robe-the chiton turned out to be at Mtskheta Elioz, who brought it to Georgia, he He gave Hilton to his sister Sidonia, who recognized Christ as a Mission, taking him in her arms, Sidonia, struck by the brutal murder of Christ, immediately died. She held him so tightly that even after death they could not take Hilton out of her hands, in this regard they had to bury her together with the chiton, over time a cedar tree grew on her grave, to which the locals attributed healing properties. In the 4th century, Saint Nina came to Georgia, she asked the king to build a temple on the site of Sidonia's grave, a cedar tree standing nearby was used for construction-columns for the temple were cut out of it, but one pillar could not be moved, later inexplicably he himself moved to the burial place of the chiton. Moreover, he began to flow myrrh, and therefore they began to call him Svetitskhoveli, that is, the Life-giving Pillar. The cathedral has long been the place of the coronation of kings, as well as a tomb, today there are tombstones embedded in the floor, among the relics of Svetitskhoveli, in addition to the chiton, is the cloak of the holy prophet Elijah, a particle of the relics of St. Andrew the First-Called, a list from the Tsilkan Icon of the Mother of God.
The building is really very old, stucco molding and ornaments have been carefully knocked down from all the walls inside and from the outside, only on the outer walls in very inaccessible places the Slavic floral ornament remained in places, so in the center on the facade at the very top the Old Testament King David flies on two birds, as in one story of the Old Testament.
Well, the new owners of the building, in their own style, roughly cut into the altar partition, fenced off from people, painted images on the walls in places terribly clumsily that did not fit into this huge structure itself, as if children had run in, stripped the walls and daubed.
But that's what "religion" is. There's nothing you can do.
Someday, after another nuclear war, a cross will also be stuck on the remains of the reactor and the God of Plutonium will be proclaimed.
It is a must to visit! This is the heart, the pearl of Sakartvelo! A grandiose magnificent building, ancient and beautiful, like everything in this country.
The merger of Aragvi and Kura!
Mtskheta itself is a beautiful, quiet, noble place — great for relaxing and shopping.
Don't miss it!
even in the presence of crowds of tourists, there is still a feeling of peace and quiet, sitting on a bench it is quite possible to be alone with your thoughts and relax. And if you think about the number of people who visited this place and the age of the temple, you involuntarily feel respect for all those involved in its construction and preservation.
The very beautiful ancient Temple of Svetitskhoveli in Mtskheta, impresses with its size.
It was founded in 1010
Nearby you can walk along the streets of the city and choose souvenirs.
An amazing place, one of the main Orthodox Georgian churches. The facades of the temple are decorated with stone carvings. The interior of the temple is simple and full of light. On the fragments of the frescoes, you can see scenes from the legend of the Lord's chiton.
My dream is Georgia, the dream of my whole life to come to Tbilisi as a pilgrim , words cannot be written here because the sea is full of impressions , the weather is beautiful , the attitude of people in Georgia towards us is warm , and because of my fears, television and friends who were negative , I even handed over the ticket , but then I risked going and it's good that I went ,impressions for a lifetime and I think that I will definitely go again , now only the green light😂
An amazing place - with an incredible atmosphere! I recommend going after sunset, there will be fewer tourists! Which is very important in order to enjoy the unity and atmosphere!
An interesting place, both from a cultural and historical point of view. Taxi from Tbilisi is only 600-700 rubles, 40 minutes drive. The prices of souvenir dealers are overpriced, the food near the temple is excellent, there are guest houses to stay overnight, there is a transfer to the monastery in the mountains (quite cheap round trip 600 rubles)
It is a very beautiful and majestic temple. Definitely worth a visit here if you are in Tbilisi. You can just walk around the monastery, you can go inside.
A beautiful medieval place.
It's nice to see the grandeur of the building and Christian creativity.
I recommend you to visit.
It feels like a salty place
The temple is large, located in a nice small town. It is still the largest building in Georgia. There are few people, it's quiet and cozy inside. There are, of course, a lot of beggars who stick around in different languages, but there is no way without it.
We came to this monastery, and for the second time, because the first time the same minister did not let us in, we were in a hurry because we were driving from Martville, we wanted to go to the service, but a bearded and not very pleasant church minister stood at the door and said he would not let us in because we are Russians, and we are not allowed to the service. It was sooo not pleasant, I thought that there is no nationality in the Orthodox faith. But apparently they do not serve God here, because God is one for all believers. I do not advise you to visit this place, this monastery has left very negative impressions. Although I have read only good things, but the ministers are very angry and unpleasant people. They let everyone in except Russian speakers.
The place is very beautiful, the history is also good at the temple, but the servants are terrible, very evil, this should not be the case in God's houses.
The most beautiful place.
Lots of energy and scale. This is not just a temple, but a whole story. Many historical people from the Russian Empire were here and saw this place in the same video.
I just want to stop and slow down
An impressive place filled with historical and religious shrines.
If you go here on an excursion, a good guide will tell you a lot of historical facts about the temple and its contents
The largest and main temple of Georgia in the ancient capital Mtskheta. Nearby is a large shopping street with the cheapest churchkhela (2 lari). Georgian kings and princes are buried inside
Definitely worth a visit, it's impressive.
We stopped by on the way from Tbilisi, planned to have breakfast there, as there are many restaurants on the map on the way to it. It didn't work out... because at 11:00 everything was still closed🤷♀️
The oldest temple in which services are held. Be sure to visit during the holidays. The most beautiful frescoes and icons. The history of the kings of Georgia will open before you
The temple building is located behind a massive stone wall. There is a well-groomed territory behind it. This temple made the strongest impression on me of all that I have seen in Georgia. Its construction began in the XI century, and then it was rebuilt several times.
One of the most beautiful places in Georgia, a magnificent view of the mountain and the temple itself. A combination of history and aesthetics. Come here every time
A very beautiful and large Cathedral in the heart of Mtskheta. With a long history. The large-scale area around is fenced with fortress walls. You need to see it with your own eyes.
It is very impressive, the temple is huge, the remains of the fortress are impressive, it is interesting inside the temple. Orthodox relics are kept in the temple, there is a pleasant town around the fortress, stylish, in the same style, it is pleasant to walk
Amazing energy. Thank you for the warm welcome and the absence of a language barrier. There is only one minus - barbarian tourists who do not understand where they are.
The temple is 5 out of 5, the story is great, by the way, they say the temple was built by Armenians, which is very pleasing....
There was an unpleasant case when the priest decided that only Orthodox Georgians could enter the temple, well, they also say Ukrainians. He restricted Russians, Armenians, and other tourists from entering, urging them to come after 13:00 (May 28, 2023). From the genre of absurdity, when the priest fancied himself God... and decided who could go to God's house, who could not.
And it is not necessary to delete my review, on the contrary, it is necessary not to allow such reviews in the future
The main cathedral of Mtskheta, well-groomed territory, inside the tomb of the Bagrationi family, the relics of St. Andrew the First-Called. We can go.
It's an extremely peaceful place. The temple is old, obviously the very first of the large temples, the builders had no special experience in such complex objects, the temple is not made of brick, of masonry, there are cracks, the wall of the main facade has a noticeable outward slope. Decorated in a very unusual way both inside and outside, frescoes and bas-reliefs in such a tradition are rarely seen anywhere. Definitely worth a visit.
The Svetitskhoveli Temple is located on the territory of the city of Mtskheta, the building dates back to the beginning of the XI century. A blessing place. The temple is not like the others. I recommend a visit. Nearby there is a cafe for a snack, a paid toilet, souvenir shops.
It is very beautiful, not such a traffic place as Tbilisi. A great option to stay overnight to escape the hustle and bustle of the big city.
If you love history, definitely welcome to visit.
Be careful. A man who looked like a priest approached the Temple, took a brush out of his pocket and anointed the family with oil from a nearby lamp, then asked them to write notes, after which he persistently demanded a donation. He reluctantly agreed when the part went not to him personally, but to the Temple. Reviews have previously written about similar cases.
The Orthodox Church in Mtskheta, a small town and the historical capital of Georgia, located an hour's drive from Tbilisi.
In addition to the temple, in this city I recommend visiting the fortress of Bebristsikhe and look at the monument to M.Y. Lermontov.
There is a church shop at the temple, but I did not have time to study its assortment.
The most important and probably the most famous temple in Georgia. There are many kings of Georgia from different periods of its rich and tragic history.
We were at this place today . There was a scandal , Russians and Belarusians were not allowed into the temple at the entrance . The monk did not let people in and set up face control. People shouted "Nazis, racists" and women and children were not allowed into the temple. The Georgians passed unhindered. The Georgians were scandalized that all the Orthodox Christians who came and it was not right to let them in .
It's kind of a shame.
Every time I come to Georgia, I go to Mtskheta to visit this Temple, a very beautiful and most importantly picturesque courtyard with a beautiful landscape and views.
A beautiful ancient cathedral. If there are few tourists, then it is worth taking a walk around the temple and leisurely enter the temple. There, you can sit on the side of the old wooden seats closer to the altar, pray and feel the atmosphere of this ancient place.
