The New Athos Cave is an amazing place worth visiting. The tour of the cave left an unforgettable impression: majestic stalactites and stalagmites, amazing shapes and colors that create a unique atmosphere. The guide knew the material perfectly well and shared interesting facts.
Quad biking at Quadro Pedro was a pleasant addition to the tour. It was an exciting trip through the picturesque surroundings, full of adrenaline and new experiences.
A wonderful tour. An incomparable guide. Beautiful views. Of course, it is not very convenient to take photos and move around the cave at the same time, since the road is slippery. When visiting, you need to take this into account. If you forget warm clothes, do not worry. At the entrance, you can use blankets (100 rubles). I definitely recommend visiting this natural monument.
The scale of the cave is really impressive, I recommend everyone who came to Abkhazia to visit the tour. The guide tells an interesting story, turns on the backlight and folk music. Of course, most of all I remember the first "hall" with an underground lake - something unique and seemingly mysterious...
The only downside is that you can't walk around and see enough - the group has gathered quite a large one and the tour itself does not include free walking through the halls of the cave. I would really like to enjoy this incredible attraction to my heart's content.
The New Athos Caves are a unique place, a must-visit if you happen to be in Abkhazia. It is interesting and atmospheric. But get ready for the fact that it will be stuffy on the train, and it will be damp and cool in the caves themselves. And try to prepare for the rudeness of the cashiers. They don't even try to be nice and don't remember that they work in a cultural institution. By the way, it's pointless to pay 50 rubles for a photo shoot if you don't have the skill of reportage shooting in pitch darkness. The one who sits in the booth where they sell tickets for the shoot knows this very well, but does not talk about it. But it talks obscenities to women.
A surprisingly luxurious natural formation, but adapted very carefully by man for visiting excursions.
The guide so interestingly told us the story of the discovery, the inhabitants, how the cave is equipped.
We listened with our mouths open and our eyes wide open.
I recommend to every visitor of Abkhazia a mandatory viewing of the cave - the largest in the world
The cave is located in Abkhazia, New Athos, near the New Athos Monastery. I visited this cave according to the program of the Summer Evening tour in Gagra in early September. The cave itself is a large length of about 2 km, there are 11 halls in the cave, but only 8 halls are possible for excursions. You need to move around the cave on metal bridges. The temperature is about 14 degrees, so our guide told us. There are 2 beautiful lakes in the halls, as well as stalactites, stalagmites and stalacnates of all sizes on the walls and ceiling of almost the entire cave. The cave is delivered by a local electric train. I recommend you to visit!
We arrived at 10.10, took tickets for 10.40, there was almost no queue. The cave itself was amazing in scale! Very beautiful. But! I didn't have enough time to look at all the beauties as the group was moving quite fast.
But I'm thrilled!
P.S. Dress in long-sleeved clothes and pants, and sneakers or shoes with a closed fixed heel, it's slippery and steep descents and ascents. The temperature in the cave is 11-14°, and 100% humidity.
Oh, this is a wonderful place, conquered from 1 second!
Very beautiful!
The beauty of the cave is fascinating!
The 2 hours spent there passed in an instant!
The ticket costs 700 rubles, children under 8 years old are free of charge. Moreover, children are not tracked by age, you can go older :)
The "underground metro" is taking you to the amazing underground world of New Athos. An unusual train takes visitors to the cave halls. An interesting tour, an amazing underground world with unique acoustics.
"It's better to see than to read)" (Agatha Stein is a level 9 City Expert).
"Such a magical place, it's scary and interesting at the same time ["you get into the beauty that nature has created for millions of years"]" (Incognito 0986 City Connoisseur level 6).
Perfect ["Like I've been to another planet! I have never seen such huge and beautiful caves, and lakes look amazing at the bottom of caves! The lighting of the caves gives the effect of the mystery of nature"] to make a decision to live part of your life in an underground bunker ...
Briefly about the main thing for those who understand more than what is written:
"There is a decent tasting room at the bottom of the cave under the stairs.
We visited it after the tour, so as not to confuse the impressions)."
It's a very cool, atmospheric place. There is an opportunity to take a ride on the Abkhazian metro)The guide tells an interesting story and it feels like you are entering a slightly different world where you are a guest. The dominance and majesty of nature is really felt here
An amazing experience!! I was in Abkhazia for the first time in 2024. The cave, of course, was incredibly impressive!! And the country itself, somewhat strange, not familiar to the Moscow man in the street, even wild in places, just fell in love with its nature, its self-existence. I could only live there as a guest, I have already got used to Moscow's transport accessibility and other comfort, nevertheless, I will definitely return to rest😝
It's just a super cool experience! Of all Abkhazia, the most interesting place . A colossal cave, an interesting excursion, a must-visit (I do not recommend the local canteen on the 2nd floor).
A great place, original. An interesting tour. It is necessary to move around the cities slowly, it is wet and in places you can slip. The cave is mostly dark, as the cave world is destroyed by lighting. I was struck by the subway to the cave. We didn't wait in line for long before entering. It's worth going. It's impressive.
I must say it's not mine, I'm still talking about greenery and waterfalls. It's definitely worth a visit. Take a blouse for children, or rent blankets for 100 rubles. Adults are also cold at first, then they got used to it. It is better to come by 9 a.m. by 9:40 a.m. you will come in. There are more people than people :). The trailers (metro) are cramped and stuffy at first, during the trip 3-4 minutes are normal, but my son managed to get seasick. It's good in the cave itself, the guide tells everything well. There are only 6 halls, sometimes concerts are held there (I think it's very cool). The walk is about 1.5 hours. Still for amateurs.
Llc recommended this place to us and we were delighted!
We went in rainy weather (we are not the only ones who are so smart), stood in line at the ticket office, took tickets for the tour (the nearest ones were only in 2 hours and 40 minutes).
While we were waiting, we had lunch in the nearest dining room, then went up in the building itself and drank coffee with a beautiful view (and the tubes with condensed milk were very tasty), walked a little around the area (but it was difficult to do it in the rain)
But then we had a great time in these dungeons, we only had time to admire the scale) we were very lucky with the guide - the woman told us interesting things!
We arrived in N.Athos at 12 o'clock, there was a huge queue, we stood at the ticket office for 40 minutes, but it turned out that we would be able to get into the cave only by 16:10. But we were not upset and went for a walk around the city. We visited the waterfall and had lunch in the dining room. By 15:30 we were there. The heat was unbearable and it was not very good with two children. Fans were spinning in the "waiting room" of the cave, but in the heat of + 40 they were of no use. When it was time for the tour, we went into the hall and were taken to the cave itself on small trailers (2-3 minutes drive). When the temperature came out, of course, it changed. They put on their sweatshirts. The tour lasted about 20 hours, but most of the time was spent moving from hall to hall. Of course, the scale of the cave is amazing, very majestic and beautiful. The tour was a bit boring, but overall not bad. The fact that they write that you do not need to buy a photo permit is the pure truth. No one was tracking who was filming what, because the group was quite large and most likely it was simply impossible! I definitely recommend you to visit
A large and very beautiful cave. An interesting tour. The ticket price in September 2024 is 700 rubles. They are launched in batches every 10 or 20 minutes. Therefore, tickets are sold for a certain time. We visited as part of a tour of Abkhazia, the guide booked tickets in the morning as early as 18:10. I recommend you to visit.
Dear administration of the city and the Novoafonskaya Cave complex,
We, tourists from Russia, would like to share our impressions of visiting your complex. Today, July 21, 2024, with sunny weather and an air temperature of about 30 degrees, we are faced with a number of inconveniences that, in our opinion, can be easily eliminated.
Firstly, tickets are sold only for cash. This raises doubts about the transparency of the administration's work and infringes on the rights of customers who prefer to pay with a bank card. In the modern world, such a scheme raises suspicions of the unscrupulousness of the administration and possible embezzlement from the budget of Abkhazia.
We are confident that the introduction of an online ticket sales system will significantly improve the quality of customer service. This will allow tourists to quickly and effortlessly purchase tickets for excursions, as is done in cinemas. Modern programs and technologies make it easy to install such systems, which will make the ticket purchase process convenient and transparent.
Today, my children and I stood in the heat for more than an hour, waiting for the opportunity to buy tickets, and we will wait another hour for the tour to begin. The tickets you issue can be easily forged on any printer, which also raises doubts about the integrity of the system.
For Abkhazia, the introduction of online ticket sales will be a simple solution that will allow you not to lose customers and become a more modern country. We were surprised by the lack of cash registers, which looks gangster-like and raises questions about the honesty and loyalty of officials.
We hope that your administration has smart and honest people who are ready to improve the quality of service and make your complex more attractive to tourists.
With respect,
Tourists from Russia

On a large scale. It's very atmospheric. Sometimes the imagination draws bizarre creatures out of stones) The temperature is always about +14 and it is very important. This is probably the only disadvantage of the cave.
A very interesting cave. After visiting, no other cave can be compared in size and beauty of the internal vaults. An unusual visiting experience that will last a lifetime. I advise you to familiarize yourself. But not for people with claustrophobia
I definitely recommend you to visit!
The cost is 700 rubles, the wagons are taken to the station in the cave, then 1.5 kilometers on foot in the cave and about an hour for an interesting excursion))
It's about +14 degrees in the cave.
You can get to the entrance on foot through Psyrtskha station and through the tunnel on the left side of the lake or you can drive up by car.
Nearby there is a souvenir market, places to eat.
A wonderful cave, we were there in 2022. We arrived at the opening, took tickets without much difficulty.
In 2024, we arrived at 15 o'clock... The parking lot is packed, the queue at the ticket office is 200 people ... and they already took sessions at 5.30 pm. That is, by the time we were in the queue, all sessions could have ended.... They did not stand, they left.
Conclusion: come earlier, before the tour groups.
A gorgeous cave. We went on an excursion with the children. Duration is 1.5 hours. But this time flies by unnoticed.A steam train will take you to the cave itself, and then together with the guide you will walk through the halls of the cave. The sight is mesmerizing.
A very large-scale object! The whole family liked it! It is definitely worth a visit: in addition to the caves themselves, the train passing inside the mountain makes an impression.
The place is very interesting. Excursions every 20 minutes, The cost at the time of the visit is 700 rubles, an adult ticket, The cave has a constant temperature of about 14 degrees, there are blankets for rent of 100 rubles, but we did not freeze in sweaters, we could not pay 50 rubles for a photo permit. At least once you can look at the unique creation of nature. I recommend.
I advise you to visit! Very interesting and impressive!!! Be sure to bring a blouse with you, it's cool there! During the season, be ready to queue for tickets for half an hour and wait for your session/flight for an hour.
The place is very impressive in its scale. I've been with friends many times. I recommend that all vacationers in Abkhazia definitely visit. You might never have seen this, even if you've been to other caves. I repeat, the scale is impressive. And don't forget to dress warmly).
There are also many beautiful places nearby
,were in the month of July. I liked everything, the beautiful guide told me a lot about the opening of the cave. It's a very atmospheric place. I recommend you to visit.
A cool and informative place! Stay in Abkhazia, be sure to visit the cave. It's cold, it's always +14, but you can take a blanket at the entrance, it's slippery in places, you have to hold on to the handrails. We liked it.
It's a very interesting place. The caves are amazing in their size and beauty. There were 2 times in 2018 and 2024. I advise you to visit this wonderful place.)
The cave is unrealistically beautiful, every room is unique! I recommend you to watch it by all means! One of the wishes is to sell tickets online. The 21st century is in the yard, and you have to stand in line and swear with local guides who buy tickets in bundles.
Everything is very well maintained and prepared for tourists, we expected a greater atmosphere, but because of the pile of people and such strong preparation for tourists, this place felt a little
There are a lot of impressions, everything is beautifully organized and maintained in good condition. You need to visit one secret. Come earlier, otherwise there will be more people than in the mausoleum.
The ticket costs 700 rubles. There are no discounts for children over 8 years old. There is a single paid toilet on the territory, which is very dirty. Is it really impossible to make a clean free toilet for the cost of admission, as in all similar organizations? There is a very slippery floor in the cave, is it really impossible to make a non-slip coating? The guide tells an interesting story.
Unforgettable impressions of the beauty and power of nature. This is something amazing!!! but of the cons, of course, I would like to be able to buy an e-ticket or come up with something so as not to stand in these terrible queues. Thanks anyway. This cave MUST be visited!¡!!
This is great! Fabulous! It's magical! An extraordinary feeling of colossal strength and beauty. Photos will not convey impressions. You need to visit it yourself. I did not know that such a miracle was available to us. I regret that we did not get here earlier, although there was an opportunity - we did not take warm clothes with us, we did not take the risk. But it turns out that you can rent jackets here. Oh well.
Novo Afonskaya cave is the main attraction of Abkhazia. The pearl of Europe. It's not very "hyped" yet, so hurry up to see.
This is a truly unique place that tourists of all ages and categories must visit! The fascinating beauty of the cave halls, an unforgettable atmosphere! The only recommendation is to specify the start time of the tour in advance, as you may not have time to buy tickets at a convenient time for you!
An interesting place, a miracle of nature! An underground train takes you to the cave itself. The tour lasts 2 hours. Be sure to take jackets, as it's cold inside. We were in the cave twice at different times of the year - in spring and summer. When it rains, the cave is wet, puddles, the level of the underground lake rises. You need to walk carefully, the road is slippery. The guide tells a very interesting story, plus they include national music. The acoustics in the cave are amazing. At some point, the lights were turned off, we were in complete darkness and silence. Before that, we were warned about this. To make you feel how it can be...when vision and hearing are completely turned off, and you stop navigating in time and space. Impressions from visiting the cave were only positive!
You just have to see it!!! Super! It's very atmospheric. The beauty is indescribable. I recommend everyone to visit! Only the trailers are stuffy and some of the seats are broken.
Undoubtedly, the wonders of nature "5". But the attitude towards tourists: A grandmother who sells calcite (a non-precious stone) for 800 rubles. per stone. The son came to find out the cost, and the " Sweet grandmother " answered him: "Get out of here, boy, you're a bum." For a second, the child was shocked by the rudeness, he told me when they came out of there.
It's impressive... In my opinion, the groups were too large, they quickly ran from hall to hall and there was very little time to feel and enjoy the atmosphere... It's a pity you can't stay there and wander by yourself... As it is, everything is great, but there are too many people, everyone wants to take a picture..
I recommend visiting this place only through or with a guide. Otherwise, you will spend a lot of time waiting.... 3-5 hours and you will not want anything, but everything is organized and interesting with the tour.
It's definitely worth going there once)) And look at the path of sinners
Not all halls are open, something works, it's not worth taking a plaid, they require you to pay for photos, but there is a life hack, no one controls, it's better in the off-season, there is no queue👌parking is free down the street✅
Tickets can only be purchased at the ticket office in the cave building. The cost in May 2024 is 700 rubles. At the ticket office, tickets are sold for a time with an interval of 20 minutes. We didn't wait long for our tour, just to have a snack and go to the toilet. Here it is paid - it seems to be 20 rubles. There was also a strange fee in the amount of 50 rubles for shooting on a phone that no one checked.
The male guide, abhaz, was joking very colorfully.
Actually, it's worth going there at least once.
The most beautiful place, amazing beauty, even for those who are not interested in mountains will be very entertaining, went in September. There are not very many people, after buying tickets, it was necessary to wait for half an hour, tickets are taken for a specific time, then the entrance to the subway opened, which goes inside the mountain to the caves, it is desirable to get into the first car, but this is not so important, they will wait for everyone, the main thing is not to stretch on the tour itself, the guide explains everything in detail, there is a point with souvenirs, each hall in the cave is illuminated and opens to musical accompaniment, despite the heat inside the cave it's cool, 14 degrees, but in a normal hoodie and shorts I didn't freeze, the women threw on windbreakers. Blankets and warm jackets can not be taken. Admission per person cost 700r + 50r permission for photo and video shooting. Recommended for viewing!
